Pixel CO2 Laser Skin Resurfacing

Procedure

Blending advanced technologies with beautiful results is our focus, and we aim to successfully treat a wide range of skin imperfections with fast results and minimal downtime. We offer our patients Pixel CO2 laser skin resurfacing, a comprehensive treatment to tighten and rejuvenate the aging skin of the face and neck. This is especially effective in thickening and tightening the crepey skin around the eyes and lines around the mouth.

What Can the CO2 Laser Treat?

The Pixel CO2 laser that we use improves a variety of skin-related concerns, such as:

  • Scars from trauma or surgeries
  • Acne and acne scars
  • Wrinkles and lines
  • Uneven texture
  • Dullness

We use the CO2 laser to treat the aging skin of the face, neck, and décolleté. Our Pixel CO2 laser typically improves surgical scars by 20 – 50% per treatment. We commonly use it to treat various scars of the face and neck, as well as surgical scars from abdominal surgeries or breast surgeries.

Dr. Hartman and our medical team will evaluate your individual skin concerns during your consultation and discuss the treatment options to best address them. If Pixel CO2 skin resurfacing is right for you, we will personalize a treatment plan with you to outline how many sessions you may need and what you can expect during and after treatments.

Women and men seeking a nonsurgical alternative for skin rejuvenation, who are in reasonably good health, and who have realistic aesthetic goals and expectations may be excellent candidates for this procedure.

What is Pixel CO2 Laser Resurfacing?

As one of the most popular and innovative therapies for nonsurgical skin rejuvenation, laser skin resurfacing utilizes controlled beams of laser energy that are emitted directly into aging and damaged skin, improving the thickness, smoothness, and quality of the treated skin.

Fractional skin resurfacing is a newer form of laser skin resurfacing that very rapidly and precisely cores thousands of tiny holes into the skin surface while leaving the skin around each of the tiny holes undamaged. This allows the skin to be effectively rejuvenated but still promotes the treated skin to recover quickly and smoothly.

CO2 (carbon dioxide) is quite simply the “medium” that the device uses to make the beam of this particular laser light. There are many different media (various gases or minerals) used to make lasers, and CO2 is just one of many. CO2 lasers make an energy beam that is attracted to the water in the epidermis, making CO2 lasers especially useful for skin tightening and skin-smoothing treatments.

The CO2 laser energy causes a controlled “injury” to the treated skin, stimulating a natural healing response that causes a production burst of fresher, smoother collagen – the building block in the skin responsible for strength and flexibility. CO2 laser resurfacing increases well-organized collagen, resulting in smoother, tighter skin that continues to improve subtly over the subsequent 90 days.

Is CO2 Laser Treatment Painful?

For very small treatment areas, such as an incision site or a scar, the treatment can be comfortably done without the need for numbing. For larger treatment areas, a topical cream is usually completely adequate to keep you comfortable. Small injections of lidocaine for tiny nerve blocks may be preferred for sensitive patients or larger treatment areas. Dr. Hartman also offers the latest in pain management with the PRO-NOX™ system. PRO-NOX uses a carefully calibrated mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide to safely and effectively reduce any pain, discomfort, or anxiety. It even allows you to drive yourself home as the gas quickly leaves your system after the procedure.

When Will I See Results?

The surface of the skin may be slightly flushed and/or puffy after treatment, which is a good indication that the skin healing process is beginning. Most of these effects typically subside in about 30 minutes while residual signs may persist for up to a week.

In many patients, thousands of tiny, little pinpoint “scabs” may be present for a week, but generally, these are not noticeable to the casual observer. We have many repeat patients who love CO2 laser treatment for its value price and high efficacy and don’t mind the pinkness after the treatment. They usually return to work the next day despite the pinkness.

Once this initial pinkness subsides, patients enjoy smoother, younger-looking skin with subtle improvements over the subsequent 90 days as fresher, better collagen is produced. Depending on your individual condition, multiple treatment sessions may be necessary.

CO2 Laser for Scars

The skin-smoothing properties of the CO2 laser are well-suited to the reduction of incision-site scars and other scars (acne- or trauma-related) of the skin. A 20 – 50% improvement with each CO2 laser treatment is typical.

At our practice, we package all our larger cosmetic rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift, eyelid surgery, or brow lift, with Pixel CO2 laser resurfacing. During a facelift, brow lift, or eyelid lift procedure, we apply the Pixel CO2 at the time of the procedure and strategically treat incision sites several times in the subsequent weeks to promote outstanding healing.
