Dysport

Correct Dynamic Wrinkles While Preserving Natural Expression at our Practice

Very similar to BOTOX®, Dysport is made from botulinum protein and is used to soften frown lines, promoting a more rested, smoother, younger-looking face. Our Dysport patients at our practice receive the highest standard of care from Dr. David Hartman, a dual board-certified facial plastic surgeon, and distinguished ExpertInjector™.

What Are The Benefits Of Dysport?

  • Quick results, often within 2 – 3 days
  • Results are long-lasting, typically 3 – 4 months and up to five months
  • Effective for moderate to severe wrinkles and lines
  • Especially effective for the glabellar lines between the eyebrows (angry 11’s)
  • Effects spread more evenly
  • Helps to prevent the formation of new wrinkles and lines
  • No recovery or downtime
  • Works when BOTOX doesn’t
  • Doesn’t produce a “frozen” look
  • Results look natural

Are Dysport Injections Painful?

Dr. Hartman performs thousands of Dysport injections every year, and most of our patients experience minimal to no discomfort during the process. For those concerned about discomfort, he uses discomfort reduction methods such as cool air streams from our Zimmer device, vibrating tools, and/or NumbMaster, a topical anesthetic cream applied before treatment.

What is Dysport? Who is it for?

Dysport is one of the best injectable treatments for treating “dynamic wrinkles,” such as the frown lines or “angry 11s” between the eyebrows. These types of wrinkles are created by the contraction of facial muscles that cause the overlying skin to bunch up (i.e. wrinkle). As we age, these wrinkles increasingly linger on the face even after the muscles have relaxed.

When injected into the key muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkling, the botulinum neurotoxin protein – the active ingredient in Dysport – blocks the neurotransmitter signals that trigger muscles to contract, thus smoothing the skin surface on top of them. Like BOTOX®, Dysport can be used for many other aesthetic improvements. View our BOTOX® page for more information.

Our clients range in age from 20 to 90 years. While most patients at our Dover, OH, practice are in their 30s to 60s, patients in their 20s are increasingly seeking early, preventative treatment even before these wrinkles become obvious. This type of early anti-wrinkle treatment is called “rejuvenation,” and may start when a patient is in their 20s to 30s.

When Will I See Results?

Once Dr. Hartman administers Dysport, it may take two or three days to begin seeing results. Depending on your individual condition, a touch-up treatment one week out might be beneficial to achieve optimal aesthetic, particularly for first-time clients. During your consultation, we will personalize a treatment plan for you, discuss where on your face or neck you would benefit from Dysport, and what you can expect during and after the treatment process.

Are There Any Side Effects?

As with all injectable treatments, swelling and redness may occur at injection sites for 5 - 30 minutes or so. Much less common is mild bruising. If a bruise occurs, it is generally tiny and rarely visible for more than a day. Dysport has been clinically tested for safety and effectiveness and has few instances of adverse effects. Prior to treatment, Dr. Hartman will evaluate several factors to help you determine if neuromodulators would be a safe and effective treatment option for you.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Results vary, but most patients experience a smoother, younger-looking face for about 3-6 months. A regular treatment interval and a good skin care regimen will add longevity to your results.

Dysport vs. BOTOX

The neuromodulators Dysport and BOTOX both contain the same active ingredient – botulinum toxin type A. This makes them so similar that they are used to treat the same issues with the same results. What is different is they are made by different companies – BOTOX is manufactured by Allergan, and Dysport by Galderma.

For whatever reason, the two companies have decided not to offer standardized equivalent units of each product required to have the same effect: 250-300 units of Dysport is considered as effective as 100 units of BOTOX® – both products are priced accordingly to make them priced competitively. Thus, while Dysport is cheaper per unit, more units may be required for the same results.

The size of the “protein chains” that are linked to the botulinum A are smaller in Dysport than in BOTOX. Some studies suggest that this smaller protein size allows Dysport to take effect more quickly: one to two days, compared to three days or longer with BOTOX. However, this conclusion has not been agreed upon by the wider scientific community.

Dysport FAQ

How much does Dysport cost?
The total cost depends on how much Dysport is required to achieve your goals. In your consult, your injector will create your unique treatment plan and then estimate your cost. Ask if we have any specials on Dysport at Fine Arts Skin & Laser Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and which methods of payment we accept.

What's the difference between Dysport and BOTOX?
Both Dysport and BOTOX are cosmetic injections to treat dynamic wrinkles. Results from Dysport typically become visible quicker than BOTOX. Additionally, Dysport results tend to last longer compared to other relaxers, and it spreads to a larger coverage area. During your consultation, your injector will understand if Dysport or another wrinkle relaxer is better for your needs and goals.

Should I get Dysport or a wrinkle filler?
Many patients don't know the different uses for wrinkle relaxers and dermal fillers. A wrinkle relaxer corrects dynamic wrinkles, whereas a dermal filler addresses static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are the result of repetitive movements, like frowning, laughing, smiling, and all of your other facial expressions. Dysport relaxes the muscle under the skin to smooth the dynamic wrinkle. Static wrinkles are from decreased skin elasticity, so a wrinkle filler plumps the area — so it looks smoother. In your consult, your injector will listen to your concerns and goals and help you choose if a wrinkle relaxer like Dysport, a filler, or a mix of both will deliver your desired results.

Can Dysport be combined with other treatments?
At Fine Arts Skin & Laser Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, we offer many cosmetic treatments that can be used to complement your Dysport results. Depending on your concerns and wants, your personalized plan may include Dysport for dynamic wrinkles, a filler for static lines or volume in your lips and cheeks, as well as a laser skin treatment. We encourage you to be honest during your consultation so we can create a treatment plan that will deliver an outcome that leaves you thrilled.

How often should I get Dysport injections?
Dysport injection results may be visible for up to four months. In your consultation, your injector will discuss how often you should return to our office in Dover, OH, to maintain your results. You may increase the frequency of your treatments or further apart after you see how long your initial results last.
